Let 3rd grade begin

So we are almost 3 weeks into the 3rd grade and wow is it so different from the previous years. A lot more is expected from the students. Every couple of months we have a friday off in which each student is expected to do what they call Field Study. Now this is not new to us and is easy to accomplish with an educational field trip or community service but now he is required to write up a 3 paragraph report on what he did and it is due on Monday, which leaves only the weekend to accomplish. Wow for Tyler this is going to be a challenge. Handwriting is not a strength for him, neither is spelling. We shall find out we have our 1st one coming up September 2nd.

Homework is different this year too, it is assigned daily instead of weekly. It is consistently 3 pages each day 4 days a week (spelling, reading and math). So far the math has been a huge problem, he is just not understanding the concepts. I hope to talk with his teacher about how to problem solve this. Maybe soon it is time to get him tested for additional learning disabilities.

On the health side things are going really good. Well the only problem we continue to have is his ears and hearing. Next month he goes back in for hearing testing and to see where to go from here. I really worry that all those sets of tubes has left some form of damage to his ears. If his doctor recommends yet another set I am going to want another opinion. I've lost count now but seriously I think he has had 8 sets of ear tubes in his 8 years of life already. Technically that is just in 6 years because he didn't get his first set until he was almost 2 years due to bad doctors refusing to help us.

I'll keep you posted but I hope 3rd grade doesn't turn out to be as hard as it is starting out! But overall he really likes his teacher and she seems like a great one, I know I hand selected her at the end of 2nd grade.
